Our Harley Street orthodontists
are dentists whose area of focus is in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial problems. The purpose of orthodontics is to treat malocclusion by using braces, aligners, or corrective surgical procedures to straighten teeth and correct jaw alignment.
Malocclusions are often caused by irregularities in the teeth and by disproportionate relationships between the jaws. As well as causing aesthetic concerns that can lead people to become embarrassed about their smile, orthodontic problems can also affect how people bite and chew their food, and can cause difficulties with cleaning the teeth, increasing the risk of other dental health problems such as gum disease and tooth decay.
Harley Street Dental Clinic offers first-rate orthodontic care to patients in the greater London area. We have three specialist orthodontists, including Stephen O'Connor, who treats both adults and children.
The best time to start treatment will vary from patient to patient. However, we recommend that children should visit an orthodontist for an initial assessment between the ages of 7 and 9, so that any necessary treatment can be started as soon as possible.
An increasing number of adults who missed out on orthodontic treatment when younger are also seeking treatment later in life.
Think braces and most people picture metal wire and bracket contraptions. However, at Harley Street Dental Clinic we offer a wide range of traditional and discreet teeth straightening systems. These include:
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces act in the same way as regular braces, using brackets and wires to gently reposition the teeth. The main difference, however, is that they are placed on the back of the teeth, so they are not immediately obvious.
Porcelain Braces
Porcelain braces are tooth-coloured brackets which have proven to be very popular with the majority of our adult clients as it provides a more discreet alternative to a mouth full of metal and can achieve great results even in more complex treatments.
Invisalign
Sometimes known as invisible braces these clear aligners gently move the teeth into their desired position. Unlike standard braces, Invisalign is removable by the patient, meaning you can take it out to eat, drink and clean your teeth. Each series of aligners is custom-made to exactly fit your mouth, and you will need to replace the aligner every few weeks as your teeth move.
Apart from traditional orthodontics we also provide excellent treatments to more complex cases as orthognathic surgery as well as working closely to plastic surgeons.
I am very satisfied with the high standards of service at HSDC. I have been involved in the decision-making process at every consultation and the information I have been provided has been clearly presented to me, which makes me feel safe and in control of my dental health. - Marco

This lovely lady has just started Invisalign treatment with us. She had fixed braces many years ago as a teenager but her teeth had relapsed and she wanted to try a different style of brace. She is loving her custom-made Invisalign aligners. These photos were taken the day they were fitted
